From Scientist to Patient
A Healing Journey
People ask me all the time “What did you do to heal?” or “How did you heal?” This is a question I have pondered for a long time and have finally come to the realization that what worked for me may not work for someone else. But there are lessons that can be shared.
When I began my healing journey, I was only interested in pursuing conventional medicine – as a scientist, it was what I knew. As my disease progressed, I was forced to venture outside of my comfort zone out of desperation. I went through a process of trial and error to figure out my “healing formula.”
I experimented with a lot of different healing modalities – some of which worked for me and many did not. I did eventually lean into three integrative approaches that became the foundation of my framework.
Three Pillars of Integrative Healing
My coaching framework integrates three complementary approaches – each one essential, none sufficient alone.
Conventional Medicine
A system in which medical doctors treat symptoms and diseases using drugs, radiation, or surgery. It is evidence-based, developed through rigorous scientific research and clinical trials.
- Identifies specific biological causes
- Uses targeted interventions
- Highly specialized by organ or disease
- Regulated by government bodies like the FDA
Complementary Medicine
Diagnostic and therapeutic disciplines used alongside conventional medicine to improve overall well-being, manage symptoms, or reduce side effects.
- Complements rather than replaces
- Holistic focus: emotional, mental, spiritual
- Growing body of scientific evidence
- Includes acupuncture, meditation, and more
Lifestyle Modifications
Intentional changes to daily habits aimed at improving physical health, mental well-being, and long-term disease prevention – the “first line of defense.”
- Nutrition and Diet
- Physical Activity
- Sleep Hygiene
- Stress Management
- Substance Regulation
A Framework for Moving Forward
Even as a cancer biologist with deep expertise in oncology technology and clinical care, I struggled to discern the vast myriad of options across these three categories.
In order to help others cope with a life-changing diagnosis, I have developed a framework to help patients identify elements within these three pillars and integrate them into a unique solution that helps them cope and move forward positively.
I work one-on-one with a limited client load to ensure my clients receive the care and support they need.

Therapy
I draw on three distinct modalities depending on what each client needs in the moment.
| Feature | Consulting | Coaching | Somatic Therapy |
|---|---|---|---|
| Primary Tool | Advice & Guidance | Questions & Accountability | Sensation & Nervous System Regulation |
| Expertise | Lies with the Consultant | Shared (Client is the expert on their life) | The body’s wisdom / Nervous system |
| Time Orientation | Present / Immediate Fix | Future / Growth | Present (Sensations) |
| Philosophy | “I will try to fix it for you.” | “I will try to help you fix it.” | “We will try to help your body release it.” |
